Job Summary:

The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Web Specialist that will provide customer service, support and training to campus website editors. This role will also respond to help tickets and assist customers using SMU's web content management systems. The Web Specialist will implement website work under the direction or at the request of colleagues.

Essential Functions:

    • Provide customer service, support, and training for campus web editors:
    • Respond to help tickets
    • Provide hands-on support and consultation to campus web editors
    • Assist web editors with implementing website features and forms
    • Provide hands-on training as an extension of support or design services
    • Create documentation
    • Provide assistance for campus web design services:
    • Implement website layouts, features, and forms after consulting with customers
    • Implement wireframes
    • Assist lead designers or developers in migrating content from older website frameworks to new frameworks
  • Provide application administration and/or advanced support for web hosting products
  • Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience:

A High School Diploma is required; A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

A minimum of two years of professional work experience is required. Candidate with customer service, support, teaching, or training experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidate is expected to learn and use campus web content management system (web CMS). Must also demonstrate working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Candidate must demonstrate awareness of grid-based responsive design and modern web design trends. Candidate must be deadline driven and possess strong time management skills. Attention to detail is a must. Candidate must also possess strong organizational an planning skills.

    Candidate with working experience with content management systems is required. Preferred:
  • Ability to create wireframes
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.0

Physical/Environmental Demands:

This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time .
