The Crater Health District is a part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) that administers public health services to include clinical services, nutrition services, environmental health services, vital records, disease prevention and monitoring, emergency planning, and many other healthcare related services.

Crater Health District is currently recruiting for two (2) Office Service Specialist. This position will assist with eligibility of patients through an in-depth interview process which includes: verifying and securing critical information for the eligibility process; answering program questions, explaining policies and procedures, registering patients by collecting consent and other required forms; explaining charges in association to services; collecting payments and verifying patient/third-party billing; writing and distributing receipts, and scheduling client visits. Responsible for answering phones, registering and entering payments and services into a specialized software program; and performing cash receipt reconciliation, which includes processing correcting entries. Position requires travel throughout seven local health departments on a regular basis.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail required. Proficient computer skills including Windows based office technologies (ex. Word, Excel, GMail). Proficient in basic math and accounting skills. Experienced in use of advanced spreadsheet functions and in tracking, reporting and reconciling accounts. Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds needed. A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
Administrative experience in healthcare setting preferred. Understanding of medical reimbursement and practice management systems preferred. Bilingual preferred (English-Spanish).
Must be able to work flexible hours between 7AM and 6PM.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check, a Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, proof of education (diploma or transcripts), professional licensure verification, and eligible through E-Verify. Conviction information, ascertained through a fingerprint-based background check, is a final step in the application process (if selected for the position).
Required to participate in district events, meetings, emergency operations, etc. May require work during some weekend &/or evening hours. A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.
