Student Legal Services (SLS) provides outstanding free legal services and education that enhances student success. The mission is to empower PSU students to succeed in their academic endeavors by providing access to justice. We address legal issues that impact students’ educational and career goals through legal advice, representation, mentorship, community partnerships, and education. Position Summary

SLS is a fully functioning law office inside of PSU. We serve PSU students for FREE, on a variety of legal matters including housing, criminal, consumer rights, family law and more. We address legal issues that impact students’ educational and career goals through legal advice, representation, mentorship, community partnerships, and education.

PSU SLS is seeking a part-time, short term legal content writer to design, create and update educational materials for PSU students, in particular, our landlord-tenant law handbook. If time permits, the candidate may revise other legal brochures and guides. The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of Oregon and Portland housing laws and is great at communicating complex ideas in a very simple and accessible way. The position and work product will be supervised and edited by the four staff attorneys. Ability to work within a confidential setting is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Oregon Landlord/Tenant Law
  • Skilled with Microsoft suite
  • Ability to write about complex concepts in an accessible, easy to understand way

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design experience strongly preferred
  • JD preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous experience working in a legal setting
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations
  • Previous experience working with college students
