The Brown-Forman Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky is seeking a highly motivated student for our summer Health & Safety Internship. Brown-Forman is one of the largest American-owned spirits and wine companies and is based in Louisville, Kentucky. We sell our brands in more than 160 countries including such well-known whiskey and bourbon brands as Jack Daniel’s, Woodford Reserve, Old Forester, Cooper’s Craft, Early Times, and Canadian Mist, scotch brands such as BenRiach and GlenDronach, Chambord liqueur, Finlandia vodka, Sonoma-Cutrer wines, Korbel champagne, and tequila brands such as Herradura and el Jimador. The Brown-Forman Cooperage is the manufacturing location for barrels which will leave our facility and go on to hold and mature our whiskey and bourbon brands primarily with some produced for our tequila brands and other products. Brown-Forman is the only whiskey and bourbon distiller which produces its own barrels which allows us to ensure quality of all ingredients of our brands. Position Details

Job Title: Health & Safety Intern

Position Type: Summer Internship

Position Duration: Negotiable (8-10 months preferred)

Location: Brown-Forman Cooperage, 402 Maclean Ave., Louisville, KY 40209

Department: Risk Management, Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS)

Salary Range: $20/Hour w/ housing assistance

Travel Required: <10%

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist Health, Safety, & Security (HSS) Manager with all health, safety, and security related functions of the facility

  • Manage equipment safety program throughout the facility to include lockout/tagout/tryout (LOTO2), machine guarding, emergency shutdown procedures, etc.

  • Manage Job Risk Assessment (JRA) program updating in coordination with HSS Manager and outside contractors

  • Assist in health and safety permitting such as confined space entry, hot work, elevated risk, etc.

  • Assist in coordination of emergency system inspections to include fire alarms, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.

  • Assist in updating and writing EHS-related policies and procedures

  • Participate in Safety Committee

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Currently enrolled in a health and safety program at a college or university

  • Prefer students entering 4 th year of bachelor degree studies (senior). Must be returning to school in fall 2020. Graduating students are not eligible for an internship.

  • Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or their Google equivalent
